We're Growing For The Future

Skipping Rock Farm is a family-owned and operated growers nursery in Great Falls, South Carolina; Growing native trees in Chester County, SC, within the piedmont area.

Our delightful forest is home to a fantastic variety of healthy, native trees -- growing naturally in the diverse soils of the Rocky Creek corridor of Great Falls, South Carolina. In fact, a great many trees in this forest are estimated to be over 300 years old! These beautiful and majestic beings provide the enduring ancient lineage of the very seeds and trees that we offer:

  • Naturally grown from forest seed.
  • Developing stronger root systems to promote longer lifespans.
  • Container grown with generous "breathing room" between them.
  • Individually monitored and cared for.
  • Observable health prior to permanent planting.
  • Our trees are delivered in their containers to ensure appropriate soils remain available to them, reducing stress and easing acclimation.

We hope to share all that is wonderful within our forest so that new and amazing landscapes will flourish.

Welcome to Skipping Rock Farm!

Show and Tell

We're Pretty Darn Different.

Since Skipping Rock Farm is all about reforesting truly native trees that are strong, healthy and have long lives ahead of them, we take the long way to grow them; Nature's way.

Our trees are grown naturally from seed -- seeds that were gently hand harvested directly from our forest, being sure to leave plenty behind for the wildlife. This means, when we say our tree is 48" tall, it actually grew to that height, naturally, from seed, at its natural pace -- typically taking 3 to 5 years to get there -- all while under the careful and sustainable stewardship of Skipping Rock Farm.

To ensure naturally strong root systems and longer lifespans, Skipping Rock Farm grows every tree ourselves, on-site, in containers. And, for their benefit, we sell them in those containers, keeping their appropriate and familiar soils with them. We do this to reduce stress and ensure that the proper conditions follow them to their forever home. This practice also allows us to make our trees available for pick up or delivery throughout the year. Now, with that said, it's always best to transplant trees during the appropriate season and weather conditions. So, order your trees whenever you prefer and, while you wait for the right time to plant them, keep and care for your trees in their containers. Take your time. Get to know them. Talk to them. Maybe give them names. Like Trixie or Fabio.

Please call to schedule a visit.

Visits to Skipping Rock Farm are by appointment only.

If you show up without one, the dogs will let you know exactly how they feel about it. And, we'll probably shake our heads as the ambulance leaves.
